Hello Oystercatchers of 2023

Welcome back. I have returned to the land of beaches and birds and am psyched to be back.

First off, I'd like to thank all of you who have supported this research and provide an update about the crowdfunding campaign. We raised over $2,100 with the crowdfunding campaign and in combination with some research grants I received, we were able to buy all ten GPS trackers for the birds and will start deploying them next month. Thank you again!

This week I've started testing the GPS trackers and they will show data like in the image below once the trackers are on the birds starting next month.

Stay tuned to learn more about the GPS tracker deployment.

Nesting

I was pleased to see the all five birds that we banded last year have returned. These birds are known for their high site fidelity where they return to the same nest site year after year to breed, but it amazes me every time that it's within meters of the previous year.

Nesting is underway and we already have 25 nests between the two study islands.
